Caswell-Massey, IFF & Yellowstone Forever Launch Yellowstone Living Florals Collection
International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF), Caswell-Massey, and Yellowstone Forever have teamed up to create a unique collection of beauty and fragrance products derived from rare botanicals.
Edison, NJ; Bozeman, MT; and New York, NY – Caswell-Massey, America’s Original Perfumers and Chemists; International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) a global leader of taste, scent and nutrition; and Yellowstone Forever, the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park, are introducing a new ‘Living Floral’ collection of Fragrance Tonics and Moisturizing Oils captured from plant species at Yellowstone National Park, using IFF’s headspace technology. A portion of the proceeds of the collection will support Yellowstone Forever’s mission of engagement and support through education and fundraising for the park to ensure Yellowstone remains an incredible resource for generations to come, including work to preserve and protect endangered plant species within the park.
The Yellowstone Living Florals collection, launching in April 2019, will include five Fragrance Tonics and five Moisturizing Oils made with Organic Argan and Jojoba Oils. All products in the collection are derived from Living Florals and named for five landmark regions within the park: Lake, Canyon, Mammoth, Tower Fall, and Old Faithful. Fragrance Tonics will retail at $48 for a 100ml Bottle; Moisturizing Oils will retail at $42.00 for a 30ml Bottle.
The Yellowstone Living Floral project has been in development for over five years, started under a scientific research permit granted to IFF in 2014 to work with Yellowstone National Park botanists to study and preserve some of the plant species unique to the park. Using IFF’s headspace technology applied to the living flora, IFF was able to identify the “scent signature” of several of these plant species and to recreate “nature identical” scent molecules using sustainably sourced materials without damaging or harming these rare botanical species. These nature-identical molecules were carefully refined by IFF perfumers for the collection.
The tonic packaging features images from Yellowstone’s photography and art archives, and all products include collectible cards with historical photos and artwork from the park along with information about supporting Yellowstone Forever. Additional expeditions are planned for 2019, with more products planned for the collection in 2020.
The five tonics included in the collection are:
LAKE is fresh, bright, and beautiful, with top notes of Verbena, Solar Flower and Lavender; base notes of Amber and a hint of Plant-based Musk. Composed by IFF Perfumer MacKenzie Reilly.
CANYON has the scent of fresh mountain air with Green base notes & a bright, Aquatic opening, with notes of Blue Lupine, Mountain Forget Me Not, Pine, Juniper, Cedar, & Moss. Composed by IFF VP Perfumer Yves Cassar.
MAMMOTH captures the spring thaw of this region with fresh citrus and aromatic notes including Sage, Mountain Haygrass, Cedarwood, & Earthy Undertones. Composed by IFF Perfumer MacKenzie Reilly.
TOWER FALL has mineral notes combined with native aromatics and woods. Includes Living Rocky Mountain Phlox, Mountain Forget Me Not, Juniper, Wild Violet, Cedar, & Amber. Composed by IFF Perfumer MacKenzie Reilly.
OLD FAITHFUL is derived from rare botanicals near the most active thermal features in the park. Old Faithful is the most unusual and unique scent, with Sagebrush, Tree Moss, Birch, & a strong scent of Smoky Wood. Composed by IFF Senior Perfumer Laurent LeGuernec.
In addition to the collection, Caswell-Massey and IFF will be supporting an educational program within the park to educate visitors about rare and endangered plant species at Yellowstone.
