International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF), the world's leading creator and manufacturer of flavors and fragrances, and Anderson French Salons

New York, New York, April 28, 2003 --- International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF), the world's leading creator and manufacturer of flavors and fragrances, and Anderson French Salons, one of New York fashion elite's best kept beauty secrets, announced today the opening of Anderson French at IFF. The new full-service hair salon will be housed in the IFF Building in Manhattan at 533 West 57th Street on the 7th floor.

The salon, which is being launched by IFF's fine fragrance and toiletries division, will not only benefit clientele, it will help IFF keep pace with the rapid growth in the hair care industry.

“IFF's Board of Directors recognized that hair care is a major source of growth for our business going forward,” said Jonathan Morley, Global Business Development Manager of Toiletries at IFF. “To work with hair properly, you need to have the infrastructure in place and the salon is a key element in developing new fragrances and providing premier service to our clients.”

Traditionally, perfumers who created fragrances for hair care applications have had to evaluate them out of a bottle, diluted in water, or on swatches. But to create great fragrances for hair care products, fragrance must be evaluated in-use on real heads of hair. Having an on-site salon allows the perfumers to experiment and get useful feedback on how the fragrance performs on wet hair, during the drying process, and after styling. In addition, the salon will serve as a "virtual home" for a new network of hair care perfumers and evaluators around the world. These perfumers will be able to send their creations to the New York salon for evaluation.

”Having the salon here provides many benefits,” said Jayne Rodgers, Global Business Development Manager for Haircare. ”Most important, they give us a consistent supply of in-use hair washing opportunities—real heads of hair for us to evaluate. Being able to try out new fragrances on real hair helps the perfumers and the creative process. In addition, having Anderson French here opens the door to the world of professional salon hair care. We benefit from their insight into new styles, techniques, products, and consumer preferences. And finally, the salon demonstrates that we're serious about hair care.” Rodgers adds that “Anderson French is a perfect match because they really want to learn about the fragrance aspect of the business.”

Since opening its award-winning salon on East 53rd Street two years ago, Anderson French has become renowned for a pioneering design philosophy that allows its stylists to create flexible, elegant designs and for its passionate dedication to healthy hair. The new salon's partnership with IFF takes this passion a step further.

“Anderson French is dedicated to offering clients the most up-to-the-minute hair techniques and products. Being able to actually assist IFF in the development of new products is extremely exciting to us,” said Gail C. Anderson, co-owner of the salon. “To be able to use our services to aid the global hair care industry, while continuously gaining insight into consumer preferences, truly establishes us as a major force in the salon industry.”

Anderson French at IFF will offer clients an array of premier beauty services including women's and men's haircutting, color and highlight services, manicures, pedicures, waxing, eyebrow shaping, and makeup applications. In the spirit of the original salon's famous “Beauty Hour,” during which clients enjoy blow-outs, manicures, and makeup applications while sipping martinis, Anderson French at IFF will offer the “Bachelorette Beauty Queen Package.” The package is being offered in conjunction with one of off-Broadway's favorite hits, Naked Boys Singing—allowing bachelorette parties to enjoy beauty services before proceeding to the comedy performance.

The new location, which is on the 7th floor of the IFF Building at 533 West 57th Street, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For service at the reservations-only salon, clients may call 212-708-7180. Anderson French's original location, Anderson French New York, Inc. at 18 East 53rd Street (212-838-1820) is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
