Michelle Pfeiffer Launches Henry Rose, a Fine Fragrance Line that Sets a New Precedent for Personal Care Transparency
New York, NY – April 8, 2019 – Henry Rose, a line of fine fragrances founded by Michelle Pfeiffer, launches today with five distinct, genderless scents that prove you don’t need to sacrifice quality for safety. In a striking departure from industry norms established over many decades, Henry Rose is proud to disclose 100% of its ingredients, thereby setting a new precedent for transparency in fine fragrance and personal care.
Henry Rose was created based on the strictest health, safety, and environmental standards set forth by two industry leading non-profit organizations—the Environmental Working Group and Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. It is the first fine fragrance to receive the distinction of EWG Verified® and Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM at the GOLD level, with a Material Health score of PLATINUM.
EWG, dedicated to protecting human health and the environment, ensures that EWG Verified® products avoid EWG’s chemicals of concern, fully disclose its ingredients to consumers, and follow good manufacturing processes. Cradle to Cradle Certified is widely used as a global measure of the safety, health, and sustainability of a material or product. To achieve certification, products are assessed across five quality categories: material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness practices.
Pfeiffer, who sits on the board of EWG, began this journey over a decade ago after struggling to find a fragrance that she could feel good about wearing, both for the safety of the ingredients and the scents themselves. “I had given up wearing fragrance altogether, and I missed it,” says Pfeiffer. “I finally decided to create a line that could compete with other premium fragrances in the marketplace, but was fully transparent with its ingredients and didn’t feel like a compromise.”
Pfeiffer worked with industry leader International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) to develop Henry Rose based on the stringent guidelines set forth by EWG and the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Standard. IFF and its perfumers Yves Cassar and Pascal Gaurin eagerly committed to the challenge, which limited them to formulating with a palette of a few hundred ingredients, down from thousands available for standard perfumery. The result is a collection of five distinct scents that are as dynamic as they are intoxicating: Fog, Jake’s House, Last Light, Torn, and Dark is Night.
Henry Rose is committed to sourcing its packaging materials from sustainable or renewable resources wherever possible. Each full size bottle is made from NEO-Infinite glass (90% recycled, 100% recyclable), the caps are made from soy, and the secondary packaging from a biobased, biodegradable and compostable paper alternative.
Each fragrance is available in 1.7 oz and retails for $120. A sample kit of all five fragrances is also available for $20. Henry Rose launches and will be sold exclusively through www.henryrose.com.

About the Cradle Certified Product Standard
The Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard is used as a global measure of materials and products made for the circular economy. Owned by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, Cradle to Cradle Certified requires the assessment of products across five categories: material health, material reuse, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness. Certification is awarded by the Institute at five levels (Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) depending upon a product’s achievement level across the categories. The standard was originally created by William McDonough and Dr. Michael Braungart. The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute is headquartered in Oakland, CA with offices in Washington DC and Amsterdam.
